10 days Itinerary for Ghana

Day 1

ARRIVAL
Official welcome
On arrival you will be received at the airport by our tour guides who will drive you to our birder friendly hotel and brief you on the tour.

Day 2

SHAI HILLS ,SAKUMONO LAGOON , WINNEBA PLAINS  AND CAPE COAST.
This morning we go to Shail hills resources reserve which is a perfect start to our adventure. Here we will see not less than 40 species and it will include some of the most high profiles birds in Ghana like the violet Turaco, The Mocking cliff chat, the Black bellied bustard, Yellow crowned Gonolek, Senegal parrots, African Grey Hornbill, White helmet shrike etc. After here will continue to WINNEBA plains where we are guaranteed to increase our numbers with some beautiful birds like the Sulphur breasted Bush shrike, Yellow fronted canary,  Black capped babbler, Red necked buzzard, Green Turaco Etc. We will end today by Night jaring and we are guaranteed to find the long tailed Night Jar among many others. Today is definitely going to be a perfect start to a great bird watching expectation.

Day 3

KAKUM CANOPY WALKWAY
Today we will be at the canopy walk way. This walkway is heist on seven huge trees 40 meters above the rainforest floor, this means that we watch the forest canopy on eye level. The canopy jewels are exposed in this forest. The rule here is see as much as your eyes can see. Black Bee eater, White-throated Bee eater, Rosy Bee eater, Black Casqued Hornbill, Brown-cheeked, Yellow Casqued, Whit e-crested, Black and White Casqued Hornbills. Malimbes, Rufous-sided Broadbill, Narrow-tailed Starling, Chestnut-winged Starling, Senegal Parrot, Gray Parrot, Tit Hylia, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Yellow-billed Turaco, Yellow-mantled Weaver, many species of Greenbuls, Cassins Hawk Eagle, African Harrier Hawk, Congo Serpent Eagle, Long-crested Eagle etc. are all exposed here.
After lunch we return again to this forest where we will stay till night in an attempt to see the the Brown Night jar, Fraser's Eagle Owl and Akun Eagle owl.

Day 4

SUSHEN FOREST
Today we will visit the sushen road and forest , all the birds that we missed at kakum will be seen here and even more .All the lower forest birds will be seen here . Illadopsis,red cheeked wattle eye,green buls, and very many birds .
After lunch we take off for Ghana number one bird. The Picathartes. On arrival at this remote village, we will pick our guide and head straight for the forest. We may see some beautiful birds like the White-tailled Ant Thrush, Letham Francolin, Buff-throated Sunbird, etc. Great attention are normally not paid to this birds as everybody's target is the rock fowl.

Day 5

ABOABO FOREST
Today we visit the ever productive forest of Aboabo. This forest is in the northern part of Kakum forest. This forest area is blessed with special species which gives a lasting memory. Species like African Piculet, Brown Illadopsis, many species of Barbets, Black Cuckoo, Black Dwarf Hornbill, many species of Flycatchers, Bronze-napped Pigeon, Cuckoo Hawk, Congo Serpent Eagle, Long-tailed Hawk, Black Sparrow Hawk etc. to mention just a few birds that this beautiful forest is blessed with .
After lunch we head towards Kumasi ,our host city when we visit Bobiri forest . This forest is known for its butterflies but we have come to realize that of more importance is the number of birds that is in this forest . Long tailed hawk, red billed helmet shrike ,red billed dwarf and black billed dwarf are always recorded here

Day 6

TO MOLE NATIONAL PARK
We will depart for Kumasi for Mole national park .We will make our first stop at the OPURO forest ,this very beautiful forest is the last forest before we get to the north and the species in this forest is better than seen than described . Capuchin babblers,Fiery breasted bush shrike, Moustached bee eater , forest scrub robin,red fronted parrot ,green turaco , yellow billed turaco ,blue throated roller ,broad billed roller etc. After three hours of birding here ,we willk continue and stop at Kintampo the geographical center of Ghana for Lunch.After the lunch, we will drive to the Egyptian plover site ,after sighting the plover we will continue to Mole national .As we arrive this park in the evening,we will stop at the air strip to view the standard winged night jar before finally getting to our hotel for a well deserved rest .

Day 7-8

MOLE NATIONAL PARK
Bird watching at Mole is outstanding; the ease with which one can see the birds will amaze you. All Ghana’s savannah birds are to be found here. Among the most interesting species one can mention:Egyptian plover, Forbes plover ,Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Saddle-billed Stork, Bateleur, Martial Eagle, African Hawk Eagle, Hadada Ibis, Long-tailed Starling, Purple Glossy Starling,Spotted creeper,yellow bellied hyliota,oriole warbler,white crowned robin chat,Red pytilia,red headed love bird, African Golden Oriole, African Hobby, Chestnut-crowned Sparrow, Stone Partridge, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Giant Kingfisher, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Red-throated Bee-eater, Broad-billed Roller, Exclamatory Paradise Whydah, and water fowl such as African Jacana, Spur-winged Goose, White-faced Whistling Duck, Senegal Thick-knee, Common Sandpiper are found around the water holes in the park . Pel's fishing owl,Grayish eagle owl,African scops owl,pearl spotted owlet and northern white faced owl are also present.
However the full list of birds for this exceptional site is too long to be included here, but on request we would happy to let you have a fuller list of the birds that can be seen in the Mole National Park.
Birding watching here is impossible without also coming face to face with large mammals, over 800 African Elephants are present in the park, and some around the village near the park entrance are extraordinarily tame. Many species of antelopes, several species of monkeys can also be seen and the remarkably tame Warthogs and troops of Baboons are always to be seen around the hotel. Crocodiles and Water Monitors are also frequently encountered around the water holes.

Day 9

ATEWA FOREST
This morning we will drive down south again after a slight birding around the mote . stopping at important bird places as we go . It will be an interesting journey, the constant stopping and birding means that we pick more than 40 species as we travel down . A stop at Yaipe at the white volta , Opuro etc is sure to be interesting . We will arrive Atewa area in the evening and get ourselves ready for the most impressive Atewa forest the following morning .

Day 10

ATEWA AND DEPARTURE
Today will be dedicated to birds as we walk all the way to the top of this Atewa hill. This is also home of the magical but elusive Blue-headed Bee-eater, the newly discover Nimba Flycatcher, Icterine Greenbul, Western Bearded Greenbul, Long-tailed Hawk, Forest Robin, Shining Drongo, Spotted Honeyguide, Kemp's Longbill, Gray Longbill, Thick-billed Cuckoo, Dusky Longtailed Cuckoo, Olive Longtailed Cuckoo,yellow throated cuckoo etc. are all found in this forest. Even the hardest birder will submit to the productive power of this forest.Any specie of bird that we missed in all the previous forest will be recovered here.
When we get down to from the forest , we will have our lunch, bath and then drive down to Accra for your departure .
